Collection: John Ashley, Photography

"A man who works with his hands is a laborer.
A man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman.
But a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist."
Louis Nizer

In 1977, John’s grandmother gave him $200 to start his college fund. Instead, John used the money to buy his first 35mm camera, and then he used the camera to put himself through college. He earned a biology degree from the University of Montana and became an award-winning photojournalist at newspapers in Florida and Montana — including the Missoulian.

Naturalist John Ashley sets out on a nocturnal quest for answers to these questions and more.  The result is a combination guide book, travel journal, historical narrative, photo essay and astronomy primer.  Join this journey from sunset to sunrise!  More information below.
